R1487 is an orally bioavailable and highly selective inhibitor of p38α Mitogen-Activated Protein kinase. P38 mitogen activated protine (MAP) kinases form a subfamily of the well-characterized MAP kinase family of serine/threonine kinase. P38 MPA kinases are widely expressed in endothelial, immune, and inflammatory cells and play a central role in regulating the production of cytokines including TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6.[1]
